Reasons to
Abstain From Communion

We must be in a state of grace when we receive
Holy Communion.
All verses are taken from the Revised Standard Version (RSV).

Jeremiah 31:31  ""Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new
covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, 32  not like the covenant which I
made with their fathers when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt,
my covenant which they broke, though I was their husband, says the LORD."
Here we see God tenderly taking His "spouse" Israel by the hand and leading her out of
danger. He is showing that His Covenant with man is comparable to a Marriage.
Mat 22:1  "And again Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying, 2  "The kingdom of heaven
may be compared to a king who gave a marriage feast for his son".
Who is the "son" marrying?

Rev 21:9(b)  "Come, I will show you the Bride, the wife of the Lamb."
Where and when does God consummate the "New Covenant"?
Where and when does God become "one flesh" with the New Israel, The Church?
When we receive Holy Communion!
It is during Holy Mass that God fulfills His Promises!
His Promise to be with His people; Mat 1:23  ""Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and his name shall be called Emmanuel" (which means, God with us)."
His Promise to feed His people with the choicest foods, Song of Solomon 4:16(b)  "Let my
beloved come to his garden, and eat its choicest fruits."

As the Bride we need to be undefiled... the Marriage bed... the consummation is Holy! We
need to be in a State of Grace to receive Eucharist!
Heb 13:4  "Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled; for
God will judge the immoral and adulterous."
