"but we preach Christ
crucified,"

First: I was asked a Question online.
What is this about having Jesus still on the cross? He is not there anymore. And the fact that
they (The Catholic Church) let Him there, and say its because they need to remember how
He suffered, isn't that to take things a little too far? I mean, we shall remember how He
ROSE! He is ALIVE, not dead! So why still have Him hanging? I don't get that. When He rose,
He went up to Heaven, right? Is it right then, that people shall remember Him on the cross?

My Reply:
Scripture would be a good place to start.

1 Corinthians 1:23
"
but we preach Christ crucified,"

So we can see the early Church preached Christ Crucified and made it an important aspect
of their teaching.

also

John 12:32
and I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself." 33
He said this to show by what death he was to die
.

Not... "when I rise from the dead..." I will draw all men to myself but when I am lifted up on the
Cross "I will draw all men to myself".

Now rising from the dead is important also...however Christ and the early Church gave
preeminence to the Cross...the Crucifixion.

Also the Crucifixion was prefigured in the Old Testament and associated with healing...

And the LORD said to Moses, "
Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and every
one who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live." 9 So Moses made a bronze serpent,
and set it on a pole; and if a serpent bit any man, he would look at the bronze
serpent and live.

The Cross also represents a Christian walk in life.

Then he said to all, "If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up
his cross daily and follow me.

The Crucifixion is an example of how much Christians should be willing to suffer:

For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an
example, that you should follow in his steps.

I would say the list of Scriptures to back up Jesus on The Cross would be endless.

I might add, one of the main reasons humanity, in general, and Christians, in particular, (this
is only my opinion) one of the main reasons Christianity is falling apart is because Christians
have lost a concept of Grace from suffering.

Too many Christians only look at the Resurrection without the Crucifixion that came first!
There is no Redemption without the Blood of the Perfect Lamb"! Without the Suffering there
would be no Resurrection!
